Our Doctors perform some types of orthopedic (bone) surgeries in our hospital. We always want to ensure that our patients receive the best possible outcome so we may refer patients to board-certified orthopedic surgeons to perform the required orthopedic surgeries.
Leg fractures, cruciate injuries, patella problems and hip problems are the most common orthopedic problems presented at our hospital. Leg fractures and cruciate repair surgeries may be treated with a number of different techniques. A review of each patient’s problem and specific issues will determine the best plan of action and we will work with each client to determine what is best.
Bone fractures may be repaired in a variety of ways:
- “Pinning” stabilizes the fracture by inserting a long stainless steel rod into the middle of the bone across the fractured area.
- “Plating” involves attaching a flat stainless steel plate to the bone using screws on either side of the fracture.
- “External fixation” stabilizes fractures using a series of pins on the outside of the leg that pass through the skin and into the bone on either side of the fracture.
A review of each case with our Doctors will determine what is appropriate for each client and patient.
